Do you remember the petty arguments you had with your brother or sister growing up? Imagine being around that same sibling as an adult for a full work day. Now imagine it wasn’t just one day. Imagine it was every day of the week… for 6 years. Welcome to my world.
Those petty arguments from our childhood are still a daily occurrence, only now they happen at work. When no one is looking, it’s common for our arguments to escalate to include a shove or a cheap punch to the leg. The upside of all this is that we are incredibly honest with one another. If one of us thinks there’s something wrong with the other’s design, we’ll come right out and say it. There’s none of that dancing around the issue which often happens during a normal critique. Our best work usually involves our biggest arguments.
Now that’s how we act when we’re working together in the office, where the client ultimately has the final say on our designs. Outside of work, we label ourselves as Indie Game Developers and our work flow is far less restrained. Little shoves and punches are replaced with full out shouting, headlocks, and table flipping. Even though it doesn’t sound ideal, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
